Home to baby gorilla, Mogo Wildlife Park's Kaius is now happy and healthy after fighting for life from a traumatic birth.

Five-month-old Kaius was delivered by a health team at Mogo Wildlife Park via caesarean in October 2022.

Zoo keeper Chad Staples said his mum didn't pass on the placenta which caused him to develop sepsis pneumonia.

"Nine months later we are here and hopefully introducing him to his surrogate soon," Staples said.

Staples has been caring for baby Kaius since the birth after his mother rejected him.

"It is life-changing, we are just so similar so it has been like having another baby around the house but with the added pressure of millions of people watching," he said.

Situated only 10 minutes away from Batemans Bay, it is renowned as one of Australia's best privately owned zoos.
