The Australian Museum is Australias oldest museum: a museum of natural history and anthropology, its collections cover invertebrate and vertebrate zoology, mineralogy and palaeontology, and anthropology.

Our vision is to be a leading voice for the richness of life, the Earth and culture in Australia and the Pacific. Discover our history, governance and future plans for the Australian Museum.

The Australian Museum is open everyday, except Christmas Day.

Opening hours are:

10am - 5pm Monday to Sunday
10am - 9pm on Wednesdays.

Entry fees
Experience the revamped Australian Museum with free entry!

General Admission to the Australian Museum is free for adults and children, for a limited time. Free entry includes all permanent exhibitions.

Entry fees may apply to special exhibitions and tickets are required for programs and events.

The Australian Museum is located on the corner of College Street and William Street in central Sydney, just across the road from Hyde Park and opposite St Mary's Cathedral. For directions, please see the Google Map at the end of this page.

Public Transport
Trains
The nearest train stations are St James, Museum and Town Hall. Each are of equal distance to us and are an easy 7 minute walk.

Please note that Museum Station does not offer lift access at this stage.

If you have a stroller or wheelchair, please note that your journey through Hyde Park will end in stairs at each of the museum corners on College and Park Streets. Level exit is available at the St Mary's Cathedral pedestrian crossing if coming from St James Station, and at the corner of College and Liverpool Streets if coming from Museum Station.

Buses
For bus services arriving in the city centre, alight near Hyde Park or Town Hall and walk east along Park Street towards Kings Cross - a 7 to 10 minute walk.

Hop-on Hop-off Tour Buses
The AM is on the Sydney and Bondi Hop-on Hop-off Tour bus route with a stop right outside our entrance on College Street.
