Iconic Sydney nightclub forced to shut doors for good

After 31 years an iconic Sydney nightclub and cocktail bar has been forced to close its doors, with owner Jonathan Lane declaring his "race is run".
Mr Lane runs Baker Lane in Cronulla, in Sydney's south.
He said there's been "lots of tears", as without rental protection or financial support he's made the decision to shut the doors for good.
It comes as Sydney enters it's seventh week of lockdown.
"My race is run here," Mr Lane said.
"I'm over. We are out of here. It is a hole that cannot be filled.
"It's tough. We've got a lot of tears. We are trying to battle through this. A lot of mixed emotions.
Mr Lane has vowed to re-open on a new premises, claiming financial stress and pressure from his landlord forced him to give up the Cronulla venue.
"It's really the financial support. Although NSW Government have been giving these financial packages, it is just not enough for a nightclub that's been closed pretty much for 13 months," he said.
"The first lockdown, we did have a bit of a fail-safe with landlords and the moratorium.
"The second one, some landlords seem to be able to do what they want, when they want. There is no real safety net for us".
Mr Lane said he feels for the Cronulla community, who has a long history with the venue.
"It's sad. The local area now doesn't have a nightclub," he said.
"This has been home to the Sharks, been home to a lot of people over the years, people have met and married here".
