Cape Byron Walking Track

Cape Byron Walking Track

Take a glorious walk around Australias easternmost mainland point, Circuit of Cape Byron, Byron Bay, North Coast, a disctance of 5 km.

This is one of the most uplifting coastal walks youll ever do - along a track that takes you high above the coast for a sensational view of pristine beaches and swoops down to sea level where the wind licks your face with its salty spray.

In the distance is the dramatic peak of Mt Warning, surrounded by rainforest - clad mountains that are part of the World Heritage listed Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves of Australia.

The track begins east of the town of Byron Bay on Lighthouse Road, and circles the peninsula on which the lighthouse sits. Byron Bay itself has star quality, and it is only fitting that this is the brightest of any light on the Australian mainland.

Watch for humpback whales - frequently seen from this headland on their annual migration along the coast from May to November.

Walk down close to the rocky spit at the tail of the cape and be the most easterly person on the Australian mainland.

Have a dip in the waves at sheltered Wategos Beach.

Take a close-up look at the lighthouse, built in 1901 and perched 94 metres above sea level on the crest of the windswept headland.
