City of Sydney to upgrade Ward Park playground

The City of Sydney Council is set to endorse concept plans for the upgrade of the adventure playground in Ward Park, Surry Hills.

Lord Mayor, Clover Moore MP said that the concept plans were drafted with the input from the local community gathered at a community consultation day in the park in late 2007.

"These concept designs focus on providing a state of the art playground for kids aged 4 to 12 helping to develop cognitive, physical and social skills. In the inner-city, with so many young families, providing great play areas like this is vital."

The designs for the new playground include:
    a small bike track;
    a small skateable area;
    nature play elements; and
    climbing and adventure play equipment such as a space net, rope bridge, climber/slide and flying fox

Access to the play area is also to be improved, with softfall areas will be upgraded and new trees to increase shade. There will also be a new bubbler and a place for kids and carers to park their bicycles.

It is estimated that construction will commence in late 2008 and be completed in mid 2009.
