History

On March 13, 2008 the idea for the AFLs newest club was born after the league won the support of the 16 club Presidents to establish an 18th side to be based at Blacktown International Sportspark in Western Sydney.

The GIANTS may be the Australian Football League's youngest club, having entered the competition at the beginning of the 2012 season, but the GIANTS have already begun to build a rich history.

Since the club's formation, it has helped to grow the game in Western Sydney and the ACT through numerous community programs, while the GIANTS' on-field success has also helped to bring new fans to the game with the club's membership growing year-on-year.

In the GIANTS' nine AFL seasons to date the club has made finals four times, winning a final in each September campaign. The GIANTS made their first AFL Grand Final in 2019 and produced their first Coleman Medallist in that same season, with Jeremy Cameron kicking 67 goals in the home-and-away season.

The GIANTS formed a strategic partnership with Netball NSW in 2016 which saw GIANTS Netball take to the court in the newly-formed Super Netball competition in 2017, making the GIANTS one of only two clubs to have a Football and Netball team at the elite level.

In 2016 the GIANTS were also granted a license to field a team in the AFL Women's competition. The arrival of the AFLW GIANTS team in 2017 has seen women's football across New South Wales and the ACT flourish with Women's Football becoming one of the fastest growing sports in the country.

In 2019, the GIANTS made it to the grand final but went down to the Richmond Football Club.

Greater Western Sydney | GWS Giants are yet to win a premiership cup.

It's coach from 2013, Leon Cameron resigned in May 2022.

Club Song

Well there's a big big sound
From the West of the town
Its the sound of the mighty GIANTS

You feel the ground A-SHAKING
The other teams are quaking
In their boots before the GIANTS

We take the longest strides
And the highest leap
Were stronger than the rest

Were the Greater Western Sydney GIANTS
Were the biggest and the best

And we will never surrender
Well fight until the end
Were greater than the rest
