Home Modification and Maintenance Services (HMMS) |
A not-for-profit organisation, the NSW HMMS State Council is the peak body representing Home Modification and Maintenance Services across New South Wales.
If you are frail aged, have a disability, or care for an aged person or an adult or child with a disability, HMMS may be available to assist you.
HMMS do minor modifications including the supply and installation of grab rails, handrails and ramps, widening doorways and carry out major modifications to bathrooms and kitchens etc. They also do some maintenance work, e.g. repairing unsafe stairs, and will do simple jobs like installing, maintaining and testing smoke alarms, changing the termperature on hot water systems and adjusting the height of tables, chairs and beds.
The major emphasis of the work of HMMS is on access, safety and independence so aged people or those with a disability can live more independently in the community and remain living at home.
