Normanhurst Uniting Church Musical Society |
NUCMS has been producing musical theatre for over thirty years. Our shows are rehearsed and performed at Normanhurst Uniting Church.
In 1969, members of the then Normanhurst Methodist Church produced and performed Gilbert & Sullivans "Trial by Jury"for the second half of a local church concert. There was only one performance in the Hinemoa Avenue Methodist Church Hall.
Six years later, the Normanhurst Methodist Musical Society was formed with Ray Hawkins the first President. The original idea was to perform some of the Gilbert & Sullivan Operettas and four performances of HMS Pinafore were given in May of 1975 in the Methodist Church Hall. The aims at that time were to entertain the local community, and raise money for local charities and the local church.
In that first year, $190 was donated to the church and $50 to the now closed Heighway House, Thornleigh. Donations in the following years were also given to Koronga House Childrens Home (1976) and Inala School (1977).
In 1978 the society was renamed "The Normanhurst Uniting Church Musical Society"(NUCMS) when the Uniting Church came into being and in 1981 with the production of "La Vie Parisienne", performances moved from the Normanhurst Hinemoa Avenue Church Fellowship Centre to the Pennant Hills Community Centre.
In 1997, productions were moved to the new local Normanhurst Uniting Church Centre in Buckingham Avenue, Normanhurst. Donations to local charities over the years have amounted to over $45,000 with donations to groups like Hornsby Lifeline, Fusion, the local Church and the local Christian Education Associations.
New members, both performing and non-performing are always welcome. We also welcome proposals from prospective production teams for future seasons (see the Information Pack on the website via the link below). Please contact us for more information.
