Sydney North Region is a region of Scouts Australia, NSW Branch, encompassing the Hornsby, Hunters Hill, Manly, Pittwater, Lane Cove, Ku-ring-gai, North Sydney, Warringah and Mosman Councils and the Willoughby and Ryde City Councils.
Scouting is a worldwide youth movement with over 28 million members. It is a voluntary, non-political educational movement for young people, open to all.
The Scout program offers a flexible range of activities adapted to the needs of the community. Activities are based on the interests of the young people involved, with an emphasis on useful skills and service to others. Many Scout activities take place in the outdoors with a spirit of adventure and challenge.
The aim of Scouts Australia is to encourage the physical, mental, social and spiritual development of young people so that they may take a constructive place in society as responsible citizens, and as members of their local, national and international communities.
The methods Scouts Australia utilises to achieve its aims are:
Voluntary membership of a uniformed group, which, guided by adults, is increasingly self-governing in its successive age groups.
Commitment to a code of living as expressed in the Promise and Law, the meaning of which is expanded as the member grows towards maturity.
The provision of opportunities for leadership and responsibility.
Learning by doing.
Encouragement of activity in small groups.
An Award Scheme, which encourages participation in the full range of activities and provides recognition of individual achievements.
