Sydneys World Record Night

It was a night of broken world records on Friday in Sydney at the Australian Swimming Championship in Sydney.

Eamon Sullivan broke the 50 metre freestyle world record for the second consecutive night, besting his own world record (21.41) from the semi-finals by 0.13 seconds, touching the wall in 21.28.

Ashley Callus came in second at 22.02, securing his place on the Olympic team, while Jonathan Newton came in third at 22.15.

Fifteen-year-old Cate Campbell made headlines too, breaking the womens 50m freestyle Australian record in 24.30, along with Brenton Rickards breastroke triple Commonwealth record of 27.30, adding the 50m to his 100 and 200m titles, and Meagan Nays new Commonwealth record of 2:05.55, winning the 200 metres backstroke final, and dedicating the win to her late father Robbie Nay, an Olympic relay swimmer for Australia at the 1972 Munich Games.

Seventeen-year-old Belinda Hocking finished second, confirming her own place on the Olympic team.
