Peppin Heritage Centre |
The Peppin Heritage Centre, which incorporates the Visitor Information Centre is an ideal starting point when you arrive in Deniliquin.
The building was Deniliquins first public school and has now been transformed into a regional museum and in addition to its permanent exhibitions the Centre hosts a variety of travelling exhibitions each year.
The museum is dedicated to the Peppin family who in the 1800s developed a Merino sheep that could withstand and thrive in the harsh Australian conditions. Today the Peppin bloodline forms the foundation of more than 90% of the nations flock. The museum guides visitors on a journey through significant points in the districts development from its origins as a premier wool growing region to the development of the local rice industry and an introduction to the Deniliquin Rice Mill which is considered the largest rice mill in the Southern hemisphere.
Pioneer Garden Centre & Steam Pump Display:
The Pioneer Steam Museum is located on the Hay RD. The outstanding display of steam engines and pumps is the work of a local identity that has collected, restored and displayed. Exhibits range from large portable steam engines to small hand pumps.
