Pompeis is the creation of Melbourne-born Aussie Italian George Pompei, spent almost two decades in Italy learning the trade and ran a small gelateria in Sardinia - at Porto Tondo where the Aga Khan used to hang out - before coming home to open here.
Located just a few streets back from the beach, Pompeis offers an extensive selection of pizzas, plus housemade gnocchi and pasta made with the best of everything.
Of the 25 regular pizza varieties on the menu - plus specials - there are no duds: try the mozzarella di bufala with tomato and basil or one of three calzoni, including the braccio di ferro with spinach, ricotta, mozzarella and nutmeg.
True gelato lovers flock here even in the colder months. There are dozens of flavours to pick from, so if you cant decide on one, youll just have to get a few. The dairy-based gelati are made using biodynamic milk and its why George Pompeis creations are so mouth-wateringly good.
