City of Sydneys second annual Live Green event in Victoria Park, Camperdown on Sunday August 17, was a huge success, attracting a record crowd of up to 20,000 people.

"Live Green is growing every year and 2008 was bigger and better than our inaugural event 12 months ago,"said City of Sydney Creative Director of Events Gill Minervini.

"There was a fantastic atmosphere at the event, which gave people simple tips to green their lives and make changes that collectively, can make a big difference to the future of our planet."

City of Sydneys first Green House was packed with people throughout the day keen to see environmentally responsible ways of setting up or renovating a home including energy and water efficiency, waste reduction and technologies such as solar heating.

The new Childrens Stage and Activities were also extremely popular, featuring live entertainment all day, eco-art activities and special children-friendly environment workshops.

Top Sydney chefs including Live Green Ambassador Kylie Kwong shared their skills and tips with a delicious range of seasonal, local and organic foods in the Kitchen Marquee, while the Green Bar served a fantastic selection of the states best and most sustainable organic red and white wines throughout the day.

Panel discussions on subjects including green marketing and investing in climate change, in the Seminar Marquee were completely booked out, while dozens of people attended Workshops on making natural cleaning products at home, worm farming and composting.

In the waste area, people grabbed a slice of history and got into the spirit of reducing, reusing and recycling by picking up free bags made of reused City of Sydney banners.

The festival also had more than 90 stalls of organic and locally grown food, sustainable products, fashion and services.

"City of Sydney is really proud of Live Green, which is alandmark event that builds on our Sustainable Sydney 2030 vision,"Ms Minervini said.

"Were thrilled with the turnout on Sunday and have already started thinking of new and exciting ways to build on Live Green and make it even bigger and better in 2009."
