Scully Park Regional Sporting Precinct |
Sports complex in West Tamworth, New South Wales
A new 11,000-capacity venue has been built at the Scully Park Regional Sporting Precinct, alongside the old venue it replaces. The new Scully Park (formerly known as Oval 2) opened in June 2015 and features a main grandstanding with seating for and lighting.
The capacity has been boosted from about 2500 to 11,000 following a $3.2 million partnership with council, the state government and the Wests Entertainment Group.
The parties overcame staunch opposition from conservationists, motel owners and a handful of prominent footballers, to upgrade the ground 70 metres away from the original version, which has played host to the likes of Andrew Johns, Ellery Hanley and Steve Menzies over the years.
The newly redeveloped venue is already slated to host the 2016 City-Country fixture, and now the plan is to attract Tamworth's first NRL match.
Scully Park Regional Sporting Precinct features a new -seat covered grandstand comprising of two change rooms, ice baths, showers, toilets, medical and referees' rooms, bar and kiosk facilities, five corporate suites, broadcast and media boxes and disabled seating capabilities.

The Wests Entertainment Group proudly presents the new Scully Park Regional Sporting Precinct - formally known as Scully Park No. 2 Oval.
The sporting precinct development includes a new state-of-the-art playing field laser levelled and turfed with Legend couch grass. The playing surface combines a sand/soil blend, sub-surface drainage and underground irrigation. The end result sees the new ground becoming the best playing surface in the North West, with an all-weather surface able to accommodate wet-weather games.
In addition of the new playing field, is the covered stadium with seating for about spectators.
The stadium also includes kiosk and bar facilities, players dressing sheds with direct access to the field, toilet amenities and officials/media/corporate boxes on the top floor.
Located on the western side of the ground, the stadium gives spectators the best possible views while the eastern side of the ground sees the development of a hill which gives general-admission spectators a comfortable spot to view sport. At capacity it is expected the new venue will reach up to 11,000 spectators.
A new, up-to-date LED lighting system has been installed as part of this redevelopment. The new system is safe, cost effective and efficient and has a low urban impact on neighbours.
The existing amenities block has been renovated and brought up to standards.
The Scully Park Regional Sporting Precinct is pedestrian access only, which ensures the area is a safe facility.
The precinct has successfully showcased several major sporting events including two NRL round matches featuring the West Tigers, the 2016 NRL Country v City match, A-League Football, National Rugby Championships, as well as some smaller marquee events and luncheons for Melbourne Cup and charity fundraisers.
