The Starlight Childrens Foundation

The Starlight Childrens Foundation

Since being formed as an Australian childrens charity in 1988, the Starlight Childrens Foundation has brightened the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children, and their families, by delivering innovative programs that restore the fun, laughter and joy that a life-threatening illness takes away.

Starlight is a not-for-profit charity that receives no government funding for its programs and relies on donations to bring smiles to sick Starlight children.

Living with a chronic illness or injury can cause enormous strain in the lives of children and their families. The pain, loneliness and isolation that sick children feel dominates their lives to the extent that they often miss out on the fun, laughter and normal experiences that healthy children take for granted.

Physical recovery is only part of the solution. The Starlight Childrens Foundation delivers programs both in and out of hospital and Australia-wide, providing positive distraction, making children happy and lifting their spirits when they need it most. The Starlight charity organisation brings fun and laughter to children no matter what their illness or where they live.

Each year there are over 600,000 child admissions made to hospitals across Australia with an increasing number of children spending extended periods recuperating in the home following hospital treatment. Sadly, the Starlight Childrens Foundation reaches only 1 in 3 of these children.
