The University of Sydney, Australias first university, was established in 1850.

Offering Undergraduate study, Postgraduate study, International students, Indigenous students, Honours and Other courses.

Today, with a rich diversity of courses and a reputation for teaching and research excellence, the University attracts students and staff from around the world. Many of the academic staff and graduates are leaders in their respective fields, making major contributions both locally and internationally.

As one of Australias leading universities, the University of Sydney is a key member of:
    The Group of Eight Australias major research - intensive universities; and

    The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU). Sydney is one of two Australian universities in this group of prestigious universities with members from Asia, the United States and South America.


Global Reputation:

The University of Sydney continues to rise in global rankings, confirming its place within the top 40 universities in the world.

The Universitys humanities teaching and research was ranked fifth best in the world in the UKs Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) World University Rankings published in October 2006.

The University as a whole was ranked 35th in the world in the same league table.

In the Newsweek global 100 for 2006, the University of Sydney was one of two Australian universities placed in the top 50 in the world.
