City proposes to keep Village to Village shuttle bus service

A popular community bus service linking Redfern, Glebe and Woolloomooloo will be funded for another 12 months, under a City of Sydney proposal to be considered by Council on Monday 24 November.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said the free shuttle services trial linking Redfern to Glebe and Redfern to Woolloomooloo has been very successful and there is strong community support for it to continue.

"The Village to Village shuttle bus trial has shown there's a real demand for these additional transport links that provide cross City transport,"Ms Moore said.

The number of people using the shuttle bus has grown in the past 12 months with 726 passengers using the Redfern / Glebe service and 882 passengers using the Redfern / Woolloomooloo service in September 2008.

The Village to Village bus services are operated by South Sydney Community Transport and run every Thursday and Friday, providing free travel for transport-disadvantaged residents to access health services, shopping and community facilities.

The shuttle bus services provide accessible transport connections between village hubs that are not catered for by direct public transport links.

The shuttle bus initiative contributes towards the Citys Sustainable Sydney 2030 vision of providing community interaction and social opportunities for isolated community members and a more integrated transport network by improving access to other bus services and train stations.
