NIDA - National Institute of Dramatic Art

NIDA is Australias National Institute of Dramatic Art, a centre of excellence in training for theatre, film and television. NIDAs primary role is to select and train exceptionally gifted young people at a tertiary level, preparing them for careers in theatre, film and television.

While best known for its Acting course, NIDA also offers unique and effective courses with great career prospects in design, stage management, event management, lighting, sound, costume making, wardrobe management, scenery construction, properties and special effects. Graduates from these courses are in great demand, and are often employed even before they graduate. They go on to work in areas as diverse and interesting as theatre, film, television, opera, dance, production management, events management and arts administration. NIDA graduates form the backbone of Australias entertainment industry with many going on to achieve international success.

NIDAs award winning and spectacular theatre complex is also available for hire for theatrical productions, commercial events, or individual functions.

Parade Theatre | NIDA

The 700+ seat Parade Theatre is located at NIDA on Anzac Parade in Kensington, Sydney.

As the largest of the theatre spaces at NIDA, the Parade Theatre offers seating for audiences of up to 707 people in its three-tiered, horseshoe-shaped auditorium.

Performers and audiences benefit from the proximity between stage and the back row, making it an ideal venue for intimate performances, as well as larger productions.

Playhouse | NIDA

The 155-seat amphitheatre Playhouse is located at NIDA on Anzac Parade in Kensington, Sydney.

Designed for more intimate theatre productions, seminars, presentations and for use as a break-out room for larger events. Access to the Playhouse is via the James Fairfax Foyer.
