No standing parking rule to end in NSW

No standing parking rule to end in NSW

It is the end of the road for the no standing parking rule in NSW.

The regulation will be abolished from December 1 bringing the state into line with national parking rules.

An RTA spokesman said more than 100,000 no standing signs had already been removed and replaced with no stopping or no parking signs.

"The no standing rule has been in place in NSW since as early as the mid-1930s but has never existed in the Australian Road Rules,"he said.

"The removal of the no standing rule will simplify our parking rules and bring NSW into line with the rest of Australia."

Under the rule, motorists were allowed to stop to pick up or drop off passengers.

From December 1, the rule will no longer apply and no parking and no stopping rules will be in place.

Under the no parking rule, motorists cant stop for longer than two minutes and cant move more than three metres from their vehicle.

No stopping means vehicles cant stop under any circumstances.

"Motorists are warned that any no standing signs still in place after December 1 will automatically convert to the no stopping rule,"the spokesman said.
