Sydney supports State Governments Sydney Link |
City of Sydney planners have given their support to the State Governments blueprint for Sydney transport, Sydney Link, in a draft submission to be considered by Council.
"Sydney needs an integrated transport solution and this State Government proposal is a big step in the right direction. Projects such as the North West Metro will help make public transport goals outlined in the Sustainable Sydney 2030 vision a reality", said Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP.
"We are also excited about the possibilities of extending the North West Metro from the CBD to the South East, with possible survices to Surry Hills, Moore Park and beyond."
The City of Sydneys Planning, Development and Transport Committee will consider the draft submission at a meeting on Monday 5 May.
The Citys Sustainable Sydney 2030 vision sets a goal of increasing public transport usage in the city by 80 per cent - a target that can only be achieved with the help of the State and Federal government.
Sustainable Sydney 2030 also includes plans for a light-rail loop for Sydneys CBD to help deliver integrated and efficient public transport.
"City of Sydney recognises that to deliver real, integrated public transport solutions for Sydney all levels of government need to work together, and we look forward to working with the State and Commonwealth government.
"Careful planning will be one of the keys to success and the City is calling for the creation of an inter-agency working group to make sure land is preserved and options kept open,"said Ms Moore.
City of Sydneys plans for public transport are currently on display as part of the Sustainable Sydney 2030 vision exhibition at Customs House, Circular Quay until May 30.
