The Tourism Industry Council of NSW has expressed their gratitude to World Youth Day participants, for the international attention that was placed upon Sydney, as well as the festivity of the city during the celebrations.
The intermingling of World Youth Day pilgrim activities such as singing and flag waving into the normal hustle and bustle of the Sydney CBD created a festive atmosphere last week.
"The many thousands of international guests to Australia and to Sydney have boosted visitor numbers in our normally quieter mid-winter month considerably,"said Chairman of TIC Ken Corbett.
Despite the influx of pilgrims into the capital of New South Wales, the event had significant ramifications on the standard tourist activity in the city.
"Major events have an impact on our normal visitation and WYD regrettably meant our Hotel accommodation sector had a very tough week with the 4-5 star hotels badly impacted,"said Corbett.
Howe'ver, the continuous flood of youth into some of Sydneys best attractions, as well "the dispersal of pilgrims to intra and interstate pre and post celebration, which has allowed them to see more of Australia"was a positive element of the event, according to Corbett.
He continued, inviting all WYD pilgrims to return to our sunny shores. "We hope that our guests have enjoyed their visit and plan to return at some time in the future, with friends and family to relive the pilgrimage locations."
"We wish them all a safe passage home."
