Quilt for Refugees |
Innocent men, women and children are being imprisoned in Australian detention centres.
Their only crime has been looking for safety and security in a country that signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, stating everyone has the right to seek and enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution. (Article 14)
Appalled by what is happening in our country, we have come together as concerned citizens in this visual expression "quilting"which is a traditional form of protest.
"I am not an Australian who believes in locking up children. I am an Australian who believes in the humane treatment of refugees."

We represent local citizens and act as a co-ordinating group. We use quilts as a means of delivering a message throughout the community.
Refugees, particularly children and families should not be subject to detention. We hope that the stories depicted in the quilts inspire people to join with us in expressing our concerns.
We work closely with the Illawarra Refugee Action Collective (Illawarra RAC) and have recieved a small grant from Wollongong City Council.
