Raffinato |
Raffinato Restaurant is situated in what is now known as Jacksons Landing. Originally it was just plain old Pyrmont full of workmen cottages many of which are now heritage listed. It was also for many years home to Colonial Sugar Refinery which dominated the peninsula.
In fact our connection with the area goes back to the fifties when my father started work with CSR. He remained with them until his retirement in the eighties.
It was our intention to create a restaurant to commemorate the contribution of all Italians to the area whether they worked in the refinery, or one of the other factories or building sites in the area.
In naming the restaurant we wanted to maintain the connection to CSR and settled on the name "Raffinato"which means "Refined"in Italian. We hope you will also find our food to have a sense of refinement about it.
The building itself is heritage listed predominately because of its facade which was typical of the type of cottages in the area. Howe'ver in later years the property was let go and fell into a state of disrepair.
We fell in love with the building the moment we saw it.
We have a long term view of the business which we have developed as Traditional Italian cuisine utilizing the abundance of fresh produce available in Sydney.
Our menu is varied and seasonally based with a number of regional italian dishes such as "porchetta (suckling pig)", "tuscan style duck"and "handmade pasta"our specialty.
