Rocknroll fans can now download a free podcast to relive and explore the musical history of one of Sydneys most famous strips - Oxford Street.
"Produced by the City of Sydney, the RocknRoll Walk of Fame and Shame is part of Art & About, Sydneys biggest public art festival,"said Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP.
"This project brings to life stories about the past, linking Oxford Streets colourful history to the wonderful cultural precinct that it is today."
The podcast is available for free download on the City of Sydney website.
The free podcast looks at the rich history of music on Oxford Street which was the hub of an emerging rocknroll scene in the late 60s, 70s and 80s that changed the face of artistic Sydney.
Take the RocknRoll Walk of Fame and Shame all the way up Oxford Street and immerse yourself in the sounds of past decades, with a podcast featuring Radio Birdman, Mental as Anything, The Missing Links and many more.
Listen to the sometimes hazy, sometimes crazy recollections of Martin Plaza from the Mentals, Rob Younger from Birdman, Andy Anderson from the Missing Links and other legends as they talk about the music that put Sydneys beloved Oxford St on the map of music fans everywhere.
Double J and Triple J music and culture stalwarts Stuart Matchett and Tim Ritchie join producer Hugh Liney and local music and art maestro Mark Gerber to add their insights to this peculiarly memorable rocknroll destination tour.
"Its not just an interesting musical history,"said podcast producer Hugh Liney.
"Its a sometimes hair-raising social history of Sydney through the crazed and manic stage performances by bands such as The Missing Links in the 60s, the emergence of punk in the 70s and finally the explosion of Oxford St into a dance and party Mecca."
