Linden Observatory

Linden Observatory

Linden Observatory sits atop a rocky plateau in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, Australia.

Established in the 1940's by renowned amateur telescope maker Ken Beames, the observatory is a dark sky haven for amateur astronomers seeking refuge from the city lights.

The site comprises the historic 61cm reflector built by Mr Beames; various workshops used by Mr Beames, one of which is used as a meeting room and storage for telescopes; observing fields; a sliding roof observatory housing a 76cm refelector mounted on an equatorial platform; residence and caretakers cottage.

In January 2010, the Observatory site was placed on the NSW State Heritage Register, in recognition of the unique contribution of Ken Beames to amateur astronomy in NSW.
