The Living Room Theatre

The Living Room Theatre is a not for profit performance company who are committed to the continual deconstruction of traditional theatrical boundaries.

Founded in 2000, we create work to challenge and extend audiences experience and perception of theatre by making sensory oriented works that are beautiful to watch, to experience.

We have produced 10 original works in venues such as Sydney Opera House, Museum of Contemporary Art, The Performance Space, CarriageWorks and in Melbourne - La Mama and fortyfivedownstairs with a sold out season at Melbourne Fringe Festival 2009 for two works inspired by Tim Wintons book The Riders - Man 40 seeks Woman with Good Legs and Billie.

The Living Room Theatre makes poetic works that are beautiful to watch, to experience. Merging theatre, installation, sound and film with text, the works collect the uneasiness of life and the random acts of cruelty, interweaving characters caught between life and desire, dreams and blurred reality. We explore the subtext of everyday life.

Through the disciplines of movement, installation, sound, film and text we inhabit space and deconstruct the narrative line to create a new platform to receive work.

The themes flow between beauty and suffering by exploring the subtext of everyday life.

We are fascinated by human frailty, in particular frailty of the "real"rubbing against the "imagined". It is our exploration into this frailty that allows us to deliver work that is personal, quirky and intriguing.

Stories told in heightened detail reveal characters that are caught in the corridor of life and desire, dreams and blurred reality.

Amongst this palate of beauty, random acts of cruelty disturb the aesthetic.
