Tilbury Hotel |
The Tilbury Hotel is eminently satisfying, from the cheery greeting as you wander into the ground-floor restaurant to the flourish with which your finishing espresso and cognac are set on the table.
Set inside the main bar and overlooking an outdoor courtyard, the dining room is comfortable with a lean, modern look. Bryan OCallaghan has his customers well sussed, presenting a menu of comfort food with wide appeal. Duck Liver Parfait is nicely served by its accompaniments of sharp Cornichons and buttery, toasted croutons, but not with a light, elegant fig, prosciutto and mint salad was let down by slightly bland buffalo mozzarella.
Complimentary flavours mix and match dishes such as plump blue-eye trevalla with pea and mint mash, and pink, tender duck breast with creamy fennel puree and pickled cherries. House-made gelato edges out banana tatin as a cool way to finish. Noise levels rise as the crowd warms up, but its hard not to have fun here.
