August 18th is Vietnam Veterans Day.

Originally it was a day to commemorate the Battle of Long Tan in 1966 but now it has been adopted by all veterans.

Vietnam Veterans and Associated Forces Memorial Day March

Springwood was the site of the first Vietnam Veteran march to commemorate the Battle of Long Tan, the most significant engagement by Australian Forces during the Vietnam War on 18 August 1966.

Each year on the closest Sunday, Vietnam Veterans gather in Macquarie Rd, Springwood at the fire Station and march to the War Memorial for a commemorative service and wreath laying.

The Salute is normally taken in Macquarie Road and attracts up to 4000 veterans and marchers. Springwood was the site of the first Vietnam Veterans march commemorating this historic battle.
