Hyde Park Barracks Museum

Hyde Park Barracks Museum

Built between 1817 and 1819, this popular landmark is located on the historic precinct of Macquarie Street and Queens Square in Sydney.

Discover the daily lives of convicts and other occupants through exhibitions on Sydneys male convict labour force, Australias convict system, an innovative soundscape, excavated artefacts, exposed layers of building fabric and the complexs rooms and spaces.

A UNESCO World Heritage-listed site in the heart of historic Sydney, the Hyde Park Barracks is an extraordinary living record of early colonial Australia. Originally built to house convicts, the Barracks has also served as an immigration depot, asylum, law courts and government offices. Today it is a cutting-edge museum.
