Local Community helps design Stanley Street upgrade

The detailed designs for the City of Sydneys upgrade of Stanley Street, home of Sydneys famous Little Italy, are on exhibition to gather the views of the local community.

City of Sydney CEO Monica Barone said that Stanley Street was one of the great "Eat Streets"in Sydney and that the upgrade would beautify the precinct.

"The Stanley Street Precinct comes alive every day with the buzz of great cafes and restaurants. Im very pleased that we can make the area even more exciting and vital with this upgrade."

"Following Local Action Plan community consultation and meetings the City held with local residences and businesses, the City developed draft designs for the upgrade of Stanley Street. These went on exhibition earlier this year and we got additional feedback from local business and resident groups."

"The City presented the detailed design proposals at a Community Meeting on 12 August. They can also be viewed at Town Hall House and on-line at www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/Council/OnExhibition. The community can have their say on the detailed designs until 26 August."

The proposed project now includes a comprehensive upgrade of the Stanley Street hub between Riley and Crown Streets with new footpath and road paving, widening of footpaths on street corners, new street trees and new lighting.

The project also includes the following precinct initiatives:
